YOTM First Day

At the beginning of summer, I felt nervous and was anticipating what my new job at Youth on the Move would be like. I had not heard of Youth on the Move prior to this and did not have any experience working with kids. I was not sure what to expect or how it would be like to interact with the children.

On my first day I felt intimidated by this new atmosphere and also by the many unfamiliar faces surrounding me. Initially, I did not speak up much since the situation felt out of my comfort zone, but what was surprising to me was the morning meetings that happened every day. During the first morning meeting, I felt shy and awkward since I knew nobody there. Our supervisor told us the general tasks that were expected from us and instead of ending the meeting and dismissing us right then, we played a little activity instead. This surprised me since I initially did not associate the workplace as a place of fun, however, this reality was a nice surprise.

Regarding my next weeks at Youth on the Move, my aim is to become more familiar with the environment and to create bonds with the people there. I want to feel more secure in myself and achieve certainty in my workplace. I have high hopes for this because even during my first day at Youth on the Move, I was able to feel the sense of community and togetherness.
